At Sage Dental Care, we believe visiting the dentist can be a downright pleasant experience. If you’ve just scheduled an appointment with your dentist in Westminster, we’re looking forward to welcoming you into our office for the first time!
We know you’ll notice our different approach from the first time you step through the door. Everyone is welcome in our office — and we provide the same exceptional level of care for patients of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds.
Here’s what you can expect from your first visit at Sage Dental Care.
First: X-Rays
X-rays are an important diagnostic tool for any dental practice. They help your dentist get a deeper look at your teeth and oral structures. X-rays don’t take much time and allow us to detect any potential issues earlier, so we can provide the most conservative treatment possible.
X-rays can help your dentist see oral health hazards like…
- Decay between teeth or on a tooth’s root
- Extra/missing teeth beneath the gum line
- Leaking, broken, or worn dental work
- Sources of pain
- Bone loss due to periodontal disease
During a first appointment, we want to take x-rays to get a complete picture of your oral health. Based on this information, we’ll put together an overarching treatment plan to help you get on the path to a happy, healthy, and long-lasting smile.
Second: Dental Exam
After we have taken x-rays, your dentist will complete a thorough visual examination of these images as well as your teeth and gums. You and your dentist will also sit down for an in-depth conversation about your oral and overall health. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about your smile at this time.
If issues like tooth decay, gum disease, worn dental work, or any other problems are found during the dental exam, we will put together a plan for restorative dentistry to help you enjoy good oral health as soon as possible.
Third: Thorough Cleaning
After the exam, your dental hygienist will get to work cleaning the surfaces of your teeth and around the gums. With the regular removal of plaque and tartar, we can help you avoid tooth decay and gum disease altogether. Children may benefit from dental sealants, which shield the chewing surface of the molars and premolars. Most patients will receive a topical fluoride treatment, too.
The cleaning portion of this appointment is also a great time to talk about your oral hygiene habits at home. Your dental hygienist may notice areas where tartar has built up. Discussing proper brushing and flossing techniques can help you achieve a better clean on your own.
